Gibraltar Gardens Can-Can
            Color, form, light, shadow, frivolity, fun, gaiety, imagination, whimsy, and of course, flowers are all words that come to mind when strolling, or sitting, or walking, or tending, or painting in a garden.  And to incorporate creativity and practicality, the perfect object emerged – a watering can! But not just any watering can, a limited edition, hand-painted watering can!
            We have gathered several dozen, unadorned, galvanized metal watering cans, each 8 inches high by 7 inches in diameter.  They are in designs created by local artists in a variety of themes.  The finished watering cans will be on display on a rotating basis beginning now and culminating in the auction/sale of these special watering cans the night of September 7th in Gibraltar Gardens, in coordination with the City Art Loop.     
            There also will be a booth at Winterthur's Garden Fair; September 14-16.  Look for signature items like moss boxes decorated for fall & Gibraltar note cards and some brand new ideas we will try out that weekend.  All put together by committed and creative Gibraltar Garden volunteers with all proceeds going towards Gibraltar Gardens. 

Autumn Returns
            Preservation Delaware is pleased to announce that funding has been secured and now implemented for the return of the sculpture Autumn to Gibraltar Gardens.  The seasons of Winter, Spring, and Summer are currently on display in the garden and now Autumn will join them.  The winning bid for this restoration work was awarded to Milner + Carr Conservation.  Their completion will be sometime in October 2007, and an unveiling ceremony with an explanation of the work that was done and the sculpture treatments utilized in this repair and restoration will be presented.  If you have an interest in attending this event please make sure you are a current member of Preservation Delaware, found on page 11, and e-mail director@preservationde.org to be included in this invitation.  The volunteers of Gibraltar Gardens fundraiser “Gardenscapes” has made this work possible.  

Garage Sale August 25th
Please join Preservation Delaware in an all Garden Garage Sale, to take place in the Gibraltar courtyard and garages, 1405 Greenhill Avenue, on Saturday August 25th, 2007, from 8AM to noon.  Everyone is welcome to donate, volunteer, and especially attend and purchase to benefit Preservation Delaware.  Donate and look for old garden ornaments, implements, plant materials, garden tools, watering cans, garden games, furniture, baskets, books, photos, and paintings! Baskets, cache pots, benches and other unique items for use in your historic home will also be for sale, and a plethora of preservation and history related publications.  Come rain or shine, cash and checks preferred no credit cards please.  All items must be sold by noon on the day of the sale.  A lemonade stand to benefit a local brownie/boy scout troop will also be on site.  Donations are welcome and please call 302 651 9617 or e-mail director@preservationde.org if you have something you would like to donate, please no hard to sell items.   We will see you there and don’t miss your chance to pick up something rare.
